The area

One of the world’s great inland deltas, the Okavango turns Kalahari sands into a shifting wilderness of water, islands and wildlife. Its beauty is most powerful at water level, where every channel reveals tracks, birds and quiet moments.

Best time to visit

Year-round. Floodwaters usually transform the Delta from roughly May to October, while the green season brings dramatic skies, breeding birdlife and fresh colour.

The landscape

Papyrus channels, open floodplains, palm-dotted islands and permanent lagoons change with the annual flood. Each season redraws the map and creates a different way to explore.

The wildlife

Elephants, red lechwe, hippos and prolific birdlife thrive around the water. On larger islands, giraffe, buffalo, antelope and predators move between woodland and floodplain.
