The area
Makgadikgadi is a landscape of extraordinary scale. Ancient lakebeds stretch toward the horizon, while the Boteti River and summer grasslands sustain wildlife through dramatically different seasons.
December to March for green-season zebra movement and dramatic skies; May to October for Boteti River wildlife. Movements follow rainfall and cannot be guaranteed.
The wildlife
Zebra and wildebeest move through the ecosystem after the rains, drawing lion, cheetah and hyena. Along the Boteti, elephant and other wildlife gather in the dry season.
